Itinerary

 

Day 1              Arrival in Baku

Today you fly to Baku. You will be met by a transfer driver at the airport and then taken to the hotel.

Day 2              City Tour in Baku

After breakfast, you will meet your local tour guide around 10 a.m. and take a tour of the Azerbaijani capital together. You will see, among other things, the old town, which is under UNESCO protection, the Palace of Shirvan Khans and caravanserai. Afterwards you have enough time for individual discoveries in the city. Take a walk on the lively promenade or take a boat trip on the Caspian Sea!

Day 3              Baku- Excursion to the Absheron peninsula - Ateshgah temple

 

At 9 a.m. you meet your local tour guide and explore the Absheron peninsula, where the Azerbaijani capital is also located. First you visit a typical farmers market with fresh oriental herbs and spices as well as sweets. Afterwards you drive to the fire temple Ashtah, which is famous for its eternal fire of natural gas sources. The natural gas sources ignited naturally and became formative for dozens of generations of fire worshipers.
Back in Baku, visit the Heydar Aliev Center, an outstanding building by the Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid. Afterwards you have free time in the city.

Day 4              Excursion to the Gobustan National Park

In the morning your tour takes you to the Gobustan National Park, not too far from the capital Baku, which has been under UNESCO protection since 2007. The unique lunar landscape with bizarre rock world and numerous mud volcanoes as well as an unusual variety of Stone Age rock paintings will inspire you.
Then you return to Baku and have some free time for individual discoveries in the Azerbaijani metropolis. In the evening you will be brought to the train station, where you will board your night train to Tbilisi at 9 p.m. (Note that there is no dining car on board the train, so it is a good idea to get groceries in the city or at the train station.)

Day 5              Arrival in Georgia - excursion to the UNESCO city of Mtskheta

In the late morning (around 10:30) you will reach the Georgian capital Tbilisi and will be welcomed by your local guide. After an individual lunch break you drive to Mzecheta, the old capital of Georgia. Here you can visit the 11th-century Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, which is said to contain Christ's Leibrock, and the 6th-century Javar Monastery.
Back in Tbilisi, check into your hotel and have time to get to know the city.

Day 6              City tour in Tbilisi

After breakfast, take a tour of the Georgian capital (starting at 9 a.m. in the hotel). Later you will experience a tour of the old town, which houses most of the most important sights. You visit the Narikala fortress from the 3rd / 4th century. Century and see among other things the Metechi cathedral, the synagogue, the peace bridge and famous sulfur bath houses. Then visit the treasury of the National Museum of Georgia, which among other things contains the gold artifacts from the 1st century BC. BC.

Day 7              Uplisziche cave city - Ananuri fortified church and Georgian wine

Today your tour guide will take you to the ancient cave town of Uplisziche near Stalin's hometown Gori. Uplisziche is one of the oldest settlements of mankind and was once an important trading metropolis for the Silk Road. Later, visit a local winery, where the wine has been traditionally made for many years, and sample some varieties. You will understand why Georgia is considered a country of wine and why local wine production is under UNESCO protection.
After this visit, you will get to know the Ananuri fort, which is located in a picturesque location directly on the Schinwali reservoir.
Back in Tbilisi you have time for your own discoveries.

Day 8              Arrival to Armenia - Sevan lake - Yerevan

Today you say goodbye to Georgia and head towards the Georgian-Armenian border, where you also say goodbye to your Georgian guide. In Armenia you will be welcomed by your Armenian guide and drive together towards Yerevan. On the way you first visit the Hagpat monastery complex, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Then drive up to the most famous lake in Armenia - Lake Sevan, the largest in the Caucasus. You will visit the Sewan monastery from the 8th-9th Century and continue your journey. In the evening you arrive in the Armenian capital.

Day 9              City of Yerevan - Echmiadzin - Zvarnots

After breakfast, take a city tour of Yerevan, during which you visit the Memorial Park and the Zizernakaberd monument complex. Later you drive to Echmiadzin, the seat of the Armenian Apostolic Catholic. Here you can visit the Church of Our Lady of Saint Echmiadzin. On the way back to Yerevan, stop at the ruins of the Zvartnots Temple - a pearl of 7th century architecture. Back in Yerevan, you have time to explore the Armenian capital. Or visit the famous Yerevan brandy factory Ararat, which was founded in 1887. You will experience a tour and taste three different types of Armenian brandy (additional costs: 22, - Euro)

Day 10             Matenadaran - Garni Temple - Geghard Monastery

Today you will first visit the Matenadaran, the most important research and storage place for ancient Armenian documents, which among other things houses a first copy of the Bible.
Afterwards, drive to the pagan Garni temple from the Hellenistic period and admire this impressive piece of ancient Armenian architecture from pre-Christian times. On the way back to Yerevan you will learn the interesting monument of medieval Armenian architecture - Geghard Monastery (UNESCO World Heritage Site), whose church rooms were created in the rock.

Day 11            Return flight

Depending on the departure times, you have some time to say goodbye to the Armenian capital. With a transfer you will be brought to the airport and fly back.
